Rabbi Blog for Spring

In my Rabbi Blog for Spring, I reflect on the blessing of the Affordable Care Act.

To each and every individual of Faith, I say unto thee: we all hope for the blessing of a happy, healthy life, and we are all threatened by the potential misfortune of a preventable death .... The Affordable Care Act a.k.a. Obama Care is about insuring that all of us in these great United States of America have access to affordable health care, increasing our chances of enjoying the blessing of healthy living. Opponents of the Affordable Care Act support repealing it and replacing it with nothing -- resulting in the denial of care for multitudes of our fellow citizens at risk and in need. In many cases, denial of vital health insurance benefits contributes to deterioration in quality of life and ultimately to needless loss of life. In the year 2012, access to affordable health care -- for all Americans -- should not be considered a privilege, rather it must be understood as a moral imperative!

Like thieves in broad daylight, there are those in congress who spend countless tax dollars on continual votes to rob Americans of the numerous benefits and protections of the Affordable Care Act that the Supreme Court of the United States upheld as legitimately constitutional. Anyone who thinks they are immune or exempt from the need for access to affordable health care must learn and repeat this phrase as if their life depended upon it: "There but for the grace of God go I." We all need to recognize that at any given moment the misfortune of others could be our own.

Which would you choose for yourself .... the Blessing of Life or the Misfortune of Death?  Here's another phrase to consider when you reflect on what's best for you and your family:

"Love thy neighbor as thyself!" (Leviticus 19:18).

We all learn from each other, so by answering the following questions we provide each other with a wellspring of life experience that we can draw support from during the process of making our own responsible choices and carrying out our own responsible actions. Help encourage and enlighten others by sharing a story, an anecdote or any bissel of Wisdom, Understanding and Knowledge from your own life journey…..

Questions for Delving: Can you name some tools, qualities, resources, techniques to help friends and community members to renew their faith and share spiritual inspiration in challenging circumstances that you/they face or situations that you/they encounter? What past experiences have helped you to feel free and expansive in the present? What hopes and dreams for improving our world will you devote yourself to for the future?
